Following a survey of all parents of children attending both Breakfast Club and After School Club in October 2019, Castle Lane Day Nursery is delighted to announce a number of helpful improvements, which we feel will make a positive difference to those attending our clubs.
Survey of Breakfast Club and After School Club
Always keen to look for new ways in which to improve our offering, in October 2019, we conducted a survey of parents of children attending Breakfast Club and After School Club at Castle Lane Day Nursery in Market Harborough.
We were particularly interested to find out how we could improve our communication with parents as well as the activities we provide for the children.
Encouraging participation from parents
We were greatly encouraged by the level of participation from the parents of children in both clubs and grateful to those who took the time to complete the survey.
Once we analysed the results, we took time as a team to have a think about how we could implement some of the suggestions, to ensure we continue to provide the highest levels of childcare.
Hot meal to be given to all children in the After School Club
It was clear from the survey responses that parents felt that sandwiches, crisps were not a substantial enough tea for your children after school.
We fully understand that food – and lots of it! – is important for your child after a busy day at school. And as the weather gets colder, we also agree a hot meal would benefit them all.
Therefore, from Monday 4th November 2019, we will be offering a hot meal for all children in the After School Club.
The plan is to collect all children from the various schools and return them to the After School Club, where they will have free play time until 16.30hrs, when tea will be served.
Children will sit together for a communal meal. And after tea, staff will do more structured activities such as cooking, messy play and Arts and Crafts.
Please therefore be advised that any child collected from After School Club before 16.30hrs then will not have had tea.
New menu for After School Club
We have devised a new menu for After School Club. Please note that allergies and dietary requirements will be catered for.

‘Our School App’ to improve communication with parents
Our survey confirmed that Castle Lane Day Nursery communicates well with parents, providing them with information about their child’s time at After School Club.
We are always looking for ways in which to improve our communication with parents, as part of our strategy to build strong relationships with both parents and carers.
We would like to remind all parents to download our App “Our School App” to their smart phone (via play store or Apple store depending on your smart phone device).
It is a free download and is very easy to use. Once you have installed the app you will need to enter our nursery postcode which is: LE16 7DE.
This will then bring up our individual nursery page, where you will find a wealth of information, including special dates for the diary, holiday club agenda, trips and much more.
Should you require any help with the app, please ask a member of staff.
More structured activities and homework
All children attending After School Club have the option to take part in a structured activity or else involve themselves in free play in the main room.
As a nursery focused on the well-being of all our children, we believe that children who have had a busy day at school often need to experience a home-from-home environment in our After School Club.
However, having listened to parent feedback, if you require a member of staff to support your child to complete their homework or, for example, do some reading, please just let us know.
We intend to re-purpose the quiet room to allow children to have an uninterrupted space to complete work, if needed.
Some of our After School Club team have previous experience working in a classroom environment and will therefore be available to support the children in completing their homework, where necessary.
Contact Castle Lane Day Nursery
Our children remain our priority and we are always interested in parent feedback about how we can improve our services.
If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Castle Lane Day Nursery and speak to one of our team.
